I have been truly amazed by how agribusiness has transitioned to hosting grower seminars and other and on-learning opportunities this winter. One excellent recent webinar I was able to join was by Maizex Seeds featuring two leading Ontario agronomists, Paul Sullivan, Sullivan Ag, and Horst Bohner, OMAFRA Soybean specialists, debating early planting of soybeans, with some great early planting considerations. Planting soybeans early does carry risks, but capturing the light early at vegetative growth stages to create more nodes on plants before flowering begins is seen as key factor to these higher yields. Early planting trials in Ontario yielded +4 bu/ac and up to +10 bu/ac. Variety selection was a key management decision.
